Is Boris's bumpy ride coming to an end?
This week's review... where do I even begin?
My little boy is in that in-between stage. He can't quite walk on his own, but can just about stand by pulling himself up, holding onto ledges of furniture, side stepping his way around the living room like a drunken Spiderman. Unsurprisingly, having had a few falls, he's picked up a few bruises along the way. Yet, he is still no where near as battered as Boris is this week.
With even 'The Sun' having now turned on Boris, with the front page on 9th December depicting him as the Grinch saying 'Do as I say. Not as I Xmas do' , he must be feeling pretty defeated. Assuming, of course, he has the ability to feel anything at all. We can't give 'The Sun' any credit though, they decided to run the story a day later than all the other major newspapers, trying to ignore the drama because they themselves had an Xmas party, that very same day!
And now, with the birth of his 8th? No, 9th child? Boris is currently taking some 'family' time, which is handy because it will also give him more time to consider who to throw under the bus next.
I've also heard rumours he’s planning a ‘small’ party to wet the babies head. All the usual faces will be there. The lanky Gollum in a top hat and spectacles that is Jacob Reece-Mogg. Oh, and the transparent balloon animal covered in baby oil that is Dominic Raab. I’ve also heard Michael Gove, the embodiment of ‘socks in Crocs’ is bringing the ‘Charlie’.
Cressida Dick, however, has already unfortunately said it’s likely she won’t be able to investigate this though, on account of the fact she’ll probably be too hungover the next day.
Joking aside, on Wednesday this week, Allegra Stratton decided to 'offer' her resignation over the leaked footage which showed her laughing and joking about a party which took place in Downing Street. A party that had 'cheese and wine' and 'was not socially distanced'. A party that supposedly never happened but if it did happen 'all guidance was followed'. That's according to Boris who had been 'reassured' of this a number of times by the invisible ghost of Christmas pasts, that has come to visit him once again, trying to draw upon his morality at this festive time of year with little success. In PMQs Boris, before even being asked any questions, said he was 'sickened' to see the leaked footage and apologised for the ‘impression’ the video gave to the public.
Really? I guess, if we are supposed to believe that Boris didn't know about the party (now possibly more than one), this only goes to prove the he has absolutely no grip whatsoever on the illegal gathering taking place in number 10, under his watch. Which begs the question, what on earth was he doing when this party was taking place? Perhaps he was too off his face, busy snorting cocaine through rolled up Randox minutes paperwork to even notice.
I think Ian Blackford was right, he said in PMQs that Boris must now either resign or be removed. I'm not sure that there is any other way out of this mess for the Tories. Boris was only good to them for electoral purposes, but with the entire country in outrage, I suspect even the most strident unapologetic Tory voters will now have a hard time trying to justify a vote for Boris.
It was only on Monday, when Boris displayed he is the only man in Britain that can dress as a Policemen and manage to look like a pound shop bank robber, that Nickie Aiken, MP for Westminster, was defending Boris on Politics Live against Dawn Butler having called him a 'Liar'.
Nickie Aikens, an MP so posh she looks like she's sucking a golf ball when she talks, came out with the same old Tory waffle. When asked by Dawn Butler on the show, what better language could have been used, 'tell me a way to say it that's going to ensure the Prime Minister, and the ministers, come to parliament and tell the truth?'
Nickie Aiken replied, 'I think they do [tell the truth], of course they do.'
(Eyes roll)
At the beginning of this week, it seemed as though Tories MPs were prepared to defend Boris to the death.
Oh, how the tables have turned.
With #Partygate not going away and Boris losing the support of his own party there was only one thing he could do:
Plan B!
Politicising Plan B for his own gain is a dangerous move by Boris. Just when trust is this Government was plummeting to the deepest darkest depths of the Conservative sea of broken promises, Boris has decided now is the best (most convenient time) to bring in Plan B. Funny that. Having known about the threat of Omicron already, asking us to just wear masks, and telling us that they would review restrictions on 18th. Leaves me to wonder, what on earth could have caused this conveniently timed sudden change of heart?
As has been the case throughout most of the pandemic, the Government are slow to act, only giving us the information they want us to know. Rather than the focus being on educating people, they have let misinformation spread like wildfire. I think this is because they actually like having someone to blame for the mess where in. They have said, time and time again, that the only way out is to get vaccinated, blaming vaccine hesitancy for the current state of affairs. Nothing to do with an underfunded and purposely neglected national health system, nothing to do with a complete lack of social care, nothing to do with a lack of sick pay, nothing to with not testing at the border. No, the problem is the people not getting vaxed.
Never mind the fact that vaccinating the entire UK population was never plausible anyway. Omicron, so far as we know, came from abroad, first detected in South Africa. The focus should be on vaccinating the vulnerable everywhere not hoarding vaccines here. We should have and could have done more.
Boris was also unable to rule out mandatory vaccines, but I'm not sure if that was just another dangerous distraction tactic. Not only are mandatory vaccines unethical and unpractical, they don't work. As said previously the focus should be on education. You cannot pin people down and force the vaccine into their arm without consent. There is a better way, one that involves the government having, firstly and foremost, the trust of the people. Which evidently at the moment, they do not.
The sad thing is, that while all this is going on, while our 'Crime Minister' is busying lying to us about wallpaper, the Tories have voted through amendments to the Nationality and Borders bill that could see those with dual nationalities stripped of their British citizenship without any explanation. Spearheaded by the black hole where empathy goes to die, otherwise known as Priti Patel, the Bill is a nice addition to the hostile environment she is creating. Where 'British Citizenship is a privilege not a right'. Keep an eye on these Tories, they want to tear up the European Convention on Human Rights as well.
It's now Friday, this week has been a bumpy ride for Boris to say the least. And this time, the fall-out is not going away. Time is ticking.
As Ant and Dec said;
'Evening Prime Minister. For now!'
(The joke is over Boris, we are all watching you!)
