Waiting for the Spring Statement
I'm tired but awake.
Sat on my sofa, coffee in hand, watching the news. Eagerly awaiting the Chancellor's Spring Statement.
What possible measures might Sunak put in place to help low income families and vulnerable people? Taxpayers effected by the current cost of living crisis.
I'm thinking hard, rubbing my chin, pausing only to sip my cold coffee. I made it an hour ago but have only just got round to drinking it, now that my son is at the childminders. Sunak could put a windfall tax on energy companies, they seem to be doing okay. Free school meals, now there's an idea, that would massively help families dealing with rising food prices. Universal credit uplift? The money is there. Enough money to write off the COVID business loans fraud.
Whatever happens, the consensus this morning seems unanimous. People want the Chancellor to do more. They need more. He must have something up his sleeve, he must be able to do something.... right? How could he not?
Personally, I wouldn't bet on it. I guess we shall see soon enough.
....
11am:
Not long now. Still waiting for the Chancellor. It'll come as no surprise that I'm starting to feel ever so slightly agitated. I'm unsure why I continue to do this to myself, I know I'll only end up getting stressed, yet the news is on and I keep watching.
The public are being ask;
"How can the Chancellor possibly help?" and "Are you prepared to tighten your belts even more so the rise in taxes can go towards the neglected health and social care system?"
Interesting narrative, the mainstream media spinning it as if the only reason your taxes are going up are because the NHS is guzzling money by the second. If only there was a solution. If you want keep your money I suppose we could get rid of the NHS and look into private health care schemes. That way you'd be better off wouldn't you? F*cked if you get an infection but at least you'll be able to eat.
Tory tory propaganda!
This is what they want! They want to make people so desperate to get by that they vote themselves out of a national health service. Free at the point of use. Sadly, it seems as though they might just be succeeding.
Bring on PMQs! Bring on the Spring Statement!
